[edit] People Aggregator User Guide for Network Operators
Congratulations, you've installed People Aggregator and created your own social network system! Now you probably want to know what you can do with People Aggregator and how. This guide will give you all of those details. It's aimed at network operators, who haven't necessarily used a social network before.
[edit] Register
The first thing to do is register with the system by clicking the 'Register' button in the top-right hand corner.
Ensure you have an image of your face (or any other image) handy to upload at registration time. Although this is optional, it helps to personalize your People Aggregator experience.
[edit] Your Private Page
After registering, you will be taken to your private page - called 'My Page'. This is your personal page that only you can see. From here you can do any number of things:
[edit] Blog
- Click on ‘Create Content’.
- Select the type of blog post you want to create (blog, audio, image, etc).
- Enter your content, then click ‘Publish Post’.
- The resulting blog post will appear on both your private and public page.
- If you click on the ‘Route post to Peopleaggregator Homepage', it will send a copy of the post to the Main Home Page blog.
[edit] Profile
- Click the Edit Profile tab.
- Provide typical profile info (age, location, slogan).
- Enter your blog name and URL.
- Enter your Flickr and delicious IDs.
- Upload a Desktop image (500 x 200 px)
Note that all of this profile data has privacy access controls on it, allowing the end-user to control what is seen in public.
[edit] Upload images, video or audio
This will put media items into your Gallery.
When uploading an item, you can define for each media element:
- Title
- Tags
- An album
[edit] Send a Message
You have two options:
- Send a message to any member or friend in the system; or
- Read a message that has been sent to you
[edit] Invite someone into the system
Enter their name and email. You can also customize the message that is sent with the invite.
[edit] Create a Group
Identify an affinity or topic on which you’d like to create a group about. Then fill in the following details:
- Type of groups (public, private, moderated)
- Group icon
- Description of Group
- Category of the group
[edit] My Links
Create your own set of Links.
[edit] Manage Content
Edit or delete anything that you’ve already published.
[edit] View your public page
Click the 'My Public Page' tab. This is your content that anyone can view.
[edit] Identity Browsing
After setting up your profile and getting to know the tools of your private page, now its time to cruise around the network and meet other people.
[edit] People
If you see someone you'd like to know, click on their face and go to their public page.
If you’re interested in establishing a relationship with them (e.g. after reading their blog, or seeing their links, friends, groups, etc.) then click on the ‘make a connection’ button at the top of the public page. Then define exactly what kind of relationship you want to have with this person.
Note that when you are on someone’s public page, you can also click on a face in their ‘relations’ module - or on a group icon in the Groups module. This will bring you to other public pages.
[edit] Groups
Groups are a way for members to congregate together with like minded people. You can create a Group or join an existing Group.
After joining a Group, you can:
- Create a Blog post for JUST that Group
- Upload media into a Group’s Gallery
- Create a topic or utilize existing topics in a Group forum
On top of Groups, you can also:
- 'Create a Network'.
- Name the network and give it artwork (both big and small)
- Decide what kind of network it is and what its URL will be
- View Gallery
- See who’s coming in, who’s posting, what media is going up (Home Page)
